About Bill Mays and JJ Mays
SOUTHWIND ENTERPRISES
Southwind Enterprises' senior photographer Bill Mays has been an avid fisherman and outdoorsman for the past 40 years. He also enjoys various sports like baseball, softball, and bowling, with a little white water kayaking, golf, football, and basketball thrown in. Bill fished the pro bass circuit for 15 years in Northern California and it gave him a great advantage and understanding for all types of fishing, including ocean fishing, and fishing steams and rivers. But Bill's favorite outdoor activity is hunting and watching his dogs work. As you can imagine, he does not stay home much.
Bill has been a Field Reporter for Western Outdoor News for the past nine years, and he's had the chance to meet and experience some of the best guides and professional outdoorsmen the state has to offer. His true passion is duck hunting, and over a 40-year span he's hunted with some of the best callers and experienced duck hunters in the U.S. and Canada. He shares many of these experiences during presentations at the California International Sports Expos.
Raising yellow labs carries over Bill's passion for duck hunting and his line of dogs reflects the love of the breed and sport. The lines are gun dog and show dog, which gives you an intelligent, beautiful yellow lab that loves to hunt, but with a temperament that's a little calmer than most field trial dogs. Ninety percent of Bill's dogs are sold as household pets because of their great looks and temperament.
Bill's wife is a partner in Southwind Enterprises' professional photography business that "Captures the Outdoor Experience." Both Bill and JJ have won many local as well as state honors in photo competitions, such as the Best of Show at the El Dorado County Harvest Fair, the People's Choice Award at the El Dorado County Fair, and Honorable Mention at the California State Fair. However, they feel that the best honor they receive is the joy their photographs bring to others.
